Phew, it’s been almost a year and a half since we had a chat…hi 🙂
At some point, I looked at what was demanding my attention and told myself…I don’t have the time; I will do it later when I have more time.
I even almost turned this blog into a YouTube page because it seemed easier.
As soon as I made that decision, I felt the Holy Spirit tell me the YouTube idea was good, but it was MY good idea. And that while He had nothing against it, He had told me to write a blog, and hadn’t told me to stop writing the blog.
And now, almost 18 months later, I laugh at myself because what I called ‘not having time’ then is possibly the least busy I will ever be in my life. I have since gotten even busier!
So today, I am here to encourage myself and, possibly, you too by saying that obedience will seldom be convenient or comfortable; obey anyway. Sometimes obedience asks for more than you can comfortably give; obey anyway.
1 SAMUEL 15:22-23 (AMPC)
22 Samuel said, Has the Lord as great a delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim (household good luck images). Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king.
The Lord delights in our obedience. He delights in it…Selah.
I may be going ahead of myself here, but I will share with you what the Holy Spirit showed me from the story of the women who found the tomb of Jesus empty:
Luke 23: 55-56 (NKJV)
55 The women who had come with [Jesus] from Galilee followed closely and saw the tomb and how His body was laid. 56 Then they went back and made ready spices and ointments (perfumes). On the Sabbath day they rested in accordance with the commandment.
Luke 24:1-3 (NKJV)
But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, [the women] went to the tomb, taking the spices which they had made ready. 2 And they found the stone rolled back from the tomb, 3 But when they went inside, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
Jesus, the one whose tomb they were visiting, had just been killed, and the male disciples who had walked with Him had run into hiding because they were scared of being associated with Jesus and of potentially being killed also.
These women had all the excuses in the world to not go anywhere near this tomb:
- The brutal death of Jesus was still fresh. What if they got killed for associating with Jesus
- They were alone and relatively defenseless against any potential harm; even the male disciples were hiding and wouldn’t be present to protect them
- There was a big rock on the door of the tomb; who would roll it for them
- It was too early in the morning; were they really going to be safe?
All these and more were legitimate excuses. But they still went to the tomb with their spices, despite all the ‘what ifs’.
Excuses will keep us from fulfilling our God-given assignments and destiny, whether they are silly or legitimate.
And in the stern warning of the Holy Spirit to me personally, if I keep listening to my legitimate excuses, one day I am going to appear before the King of kings, and I won’t have anything to present before Him, just like the man with the one talent in Matthew 24:14 who hid his talent and only had excuses to present before his master when the time came.
So this blog post is one of my personal ways of obeying God despite ‘not having time,’ because how dare I say to the Creator of Time & of My Life & Time, ‘I don’t have time to do what you want me to do; I will try to do it later.’ I don’t know about you, but that sounds kinda arrogant to me…So, I don’t know who you are OR what you are procrastinating on or not doing because of reason A, B, or C. Do that thing now.

JOHN 2:5 (KJV)
5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
ISAIAH 60:1-3
Arise, shine;
For your light has come!
And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth,
And deep darkness the people;
But the Lord will arise over you,
And His glory will be seen upon you.
3 The Gentiles shall come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.
